He participated in the TAMU-SPUR program during the summer of 2013 and will continue to work in the FLIES Facility during the 2013-2014 academic year.\u00a0 Barrett will continue his research investigating the role of nutrition in interkingdom signaling between bacteria and <em>Lucilia sericata<\/em> (Diptera: Calliphoridae). Quorum sensing molecules that bacteria use to communicate are partially derived from the breakdown of several amino acids. He is manipulating the presence of these amino acids in an artificial diet in order to determine the behavior of the fly larva as well as the production of volatile organic compounds that serve as important mechanisms regulating adult fly attraction and colonization.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BARRETT RIDDLE is majoring in Forensic &amp; Investigative Sciences at Texas A&amp;M University.
