During summer 2013, she participated in the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Her research examined the effects of deterring insect colonization of pig carrion on associated microbial function. This information could help to determine a more accurate minimum postmortem interval (m-PMI) of a body by elucidating the pre-colonization interval which is the time period before insects have arrived and colonize the corpse.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
